Use a Solar Powered Attic Ventilator and Save Money

Air circulation around your home is vital for the control of condensation. You can usually see the results of condensation by the misting up of your windows or black mold patches appearing on walls and sometimes a musty smell.

When you can see evidence of condensation it’s easy to provide ventilation by opening a window or window vent. In the attic, however, condensation can go unnoticed until serious damage is done like the rotting of roof timbers.

It is important that we control condensation in our attics but not quite so easy to control due to the access of the average attic being awkward and potentially dangerous.

One option is to have installed an automatic electric powered roof ventilator that activates when a heat sensor detects conditions that will cause condensation. Once activated the ventilator will draw out warm moist air and replace it with fresh air thus keeping the condensation in check. A solar powered roof ventilator works in much the same way as a standard electric powered vent in as much as a sensor will detect the temperature at which condensation is likely then activate the unit that will in turn circulate the air, however, the ventilator is now powered by the suns rays.

The initial investment may be higher for a solar powered ventilator; however, in the long run savings will be reflected in your electricity bill and mother earth will thank you too. Some people have said that on gloomy days solar vents don’t work so well, however, this is balanced by the fact that on cloudy days the temperatures are likely to be cooler hence the solar ventilators will not be required to work.

An important consideration when purchasing your solar powered air ventilator is the size of the area to be ventilated. An average unit will handle 800 cubic feet every minute; however, this can differ depending on geographical location. Seek the advice of a local solar power supplier or local DIY store to make sure that you are buying the correct vent for your home.
