Well, who says that everything that tastes good has to be bad for you. A lot of research backs up the wonderful claim that moderate amounts of dark chocolate are good for most people. By moderate, I do not mean you can gobble down your whole giant valentine shaped box of chocolates. But if you can just allow yourself a couple of pieces a day, you probably are not doing any harm – and may be doing good!

Benefits of Eating Chocolate

Here are some of the established health benefits of dark chocolate.

More antioxidants than berries.

Helps elevate mood.

Lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.

Tastes good!

Now we all know that many chocolate desserts contain a lot of fat and calories, so it is important to eat it in a moderate amount. Many experts suggest eating half a small candy bar or a few pieces. Also keep in mind that most studies have been done on dark chocolate, and some experts say that the milk in light chocolate may actually interfere with the antioxidant benefit.

I guess we really are what we eat! I guess we know that some foods tend to make us feel better. Lots of people refer to food like meatloaf and ice cream as comfort foods. But just what food can affect our mood?

Are you feeling anxious or upset because you are dehydrated? Anxiety can actually be a symptom of dehydration. Do not wait until you feel thirsty to have a drink of water.

If your head feels fuzzy, and you find it hard to concentrate, make sure you are eating enough protein. We tend to turn to starchy foods for snacks when we feel sluggish, but a hard boiled egg, slice of cheese, or bowl of tuna may serve you better.

You already knew that chocolate makes you feel better. Experts agree that chocolate can be a great mood elevator, and besides, it tastes great! If you are worried about eating too much, try buying the snack size. Here’s another guiltless chocolate idea I found at my local grocery store – Chocolate Yerba Tea! It only has 4 calories, 0 carbs, and just a surprising hint of cocoa.

Do you have any favorite mood foods?

We have more suggestions for natural remedies!
