Refining your Resume Even Further

If you are a multifaceted person with a career history that helped hone and make you who you are today and have the skills you now have developed, you will need to concisely say in two or three bullet points per job your major accomplishments.

So, if you are pursuing a certain position, list your skills in that particular area with each company you worked for in that particular position.  Cluster that part together and then list each other company that you worked for, the years (not months) worked there, and job title.  After that you will want to list two to three bullet points of your top achievements.

Again, have someone proof it.  Have two very different people view it.  If you know someone who has had to review resumes, they are great for an initial pass.  If you know an editor or someone who is superb with verbiage, have them look at your major bullet points and polish them so you shine when your resume is looked at.

With those major bullet points, you want to be able to point out how they helped you in your current position.  Target it toward what you currently do and how those learned skills created your current abilities.

It is your choice where to list your education.  Some state listing it below your header “list of major achievements or skills” is best where some state experience should be listed next.  I personally believe experience is very important and that is what I would look at, but It is a personal opinion.  If you don’t have major education, you will want to list your personal experience first.

Below that you will want to list your training and certifications.

After that you can list community service and hobbies or interests.  Keep those at 2-3 points each.

You are now done!  Try not to go over a page if you don’t have a lot of experience and keep it at a two page max.
