Medicare, do you need it? Are you eligible? Are you over 65 years of age or turning 65?

Medicare has to be one of the hardest types of insurance to understand.  And with over 5,000 people turning 65 years of age per day now, there needs to be better understanding of how it works.

My grandmother is having to move into a home in another state, which is why this article is being written.  She didn’t know what she would need to do in order to change her Medicare insurance.  I luckily knew of a friend who worked at this company called MedicareSolutions, which is a smaller division of the health insurance company, Health Plan One.  I found out, that they have an online quoting engine just for Medicare!  Now seniors can get online (since more and more are using the internet) and compare prices and plans to see what they can get with what they can afford.

My grandmother ended up speaking with an agent who was very kind and helpful with her, easing her concerns.  She supplied the agent with her current coverage and monthly payments and was able to compare what she has with information and links the agent provided back to her via email.

Since my grandma is an important person in my life, I wanted to make sure she was well taken care of which is exactly the treatment she received!  This is definitely the combination we were wanting in order to ease her move and experience with health insurance coverage.

There are two open enrollment for any senior over 65: November 1-31 for picking Part D (medical supplement prescription coverage) and then through March 31 for picking Advantage (comprehensive, more like traditional health insurance) plans.  Any other time, the eligibility items are:

1.       Person turning age 65

2.       Newly retired (age 65 but retired)

3.       Moved- need to change medicare coverage

4.       Shopping supplement plans (Part A, B, and C)
