Car Insurance For Women Drivers
Women Drivers Are No Joke!
I do not know how all of these myths and jokes about female drivers got started, but they really aggravate me, especially since I even hear my teenage son make them! We all know that women, as a group, are actually safer drivers.
Statistically, women make few auto insurance claims, and those claims are smaller. When you compare young women or teenaged girl drivers (under 25 car insurance), they are far safer than males in the same age group. In fact, women tend to have 77 percent less accident claims that man when you compare accidents per number of miles driven! So it is not just that men drive more, but that women have few accidents when you compare them on a level playing field.
Car Insurance For Women Is Cheaper!
So why are women safer drivers, and why do insurers tend to give them a price break on auto insurance? Here are some reasons that Mom is a lower risk driver than Dad is!
Why Are Women Safer Drivers?
- Women do not tend to drive “competitively”. As a group, female drivers realize that the guy who cut us off to beat the light will not make it to his destination that much faster, if he makes it at all!
- Women tend to prefer safer cars. Fast cars with large engines do not hold the same appeal to many women that they do to men. Women also seem more concerned about a car’s safety features than about overall performence. In addition, in a family, women may be much more likely to transport children. So the sedate and safe car will usually be the mom’s car, while the fun car will be the dad’s car.
- Men tend to take more risks than women do, especially in younger age groups.
A AAA Foundation for Driver Safety studies held plenty of surprises.
- The highway death rate is higher for cautious 82-year-old women than for risk-taking 16-year-old boys. But that is not because those elderly women are more likelty to have an accident. It is just because they are frail, and a 16 year old boy can survive a lot more.
- New England is the safest region for drivers — despite all those stories about crazy Boston drivers.
- The safest passenger is a youngster strapped in a car seat and being driven during morning rush hour.
