A Women’s Health Insurance Crisis?
Is Health Insurance Different For Women?
Tha Kaiser Family Foundation conducted an extensive health care study in 2005, and this led to their report that confirms health care is not gender neutral. While health care is important to both women and men, women do have more complex health care needs. Women get pregnant, and need ongoing reproductive system care. In addition, women appear to be at a much greater risk for maladies such as osteoporosis and autoimmune diseases like lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis—all of which require ongoing treatment.
But all of those health related statistics aside, also consider that women tend to make the health care decisions for their children. Women also live longer, on average, and that means they consumer more health care resources.
Are Women Insured
The latest statistics report that 17 million women do not have health insurance in the US, and 1 out of 10 working women do not get a group medical plan at work. The news has been strangely silent on this issue lately, but the current economic recess, and ongoing massive layoffs, has got to make this situation worse.
So yes, women are affected by health insurance problems, and I would also have to predict that women will be hit harder during this economic recession because of a loss of income and group health benefits.
Is Somebody Helping Women With Health Care Needs?
If you have a health care concerns, you may want to visit The Society for Women’s Health Research. They fund research on female health, and also advocate for women’s health.
If you need health care, but are not covered, visit here: No Health Insurance.
Of course, we are still waiting for the promised health care reforms to be promoted by the current administration. We know that the US has plenty of problems to deal with, but when it comes to our health, we do not forget!
