What Leather Bed Frame Should I Choose? – Genuine or Faux Leather?
Made from animal, generally cattle rawhide, leather is a unique material, at once soft and silky but with a rich, rugged quality that’s very difficult to imitate. Full-grain leather, of which all quality genuine leather beds are made, preserves the durability and strength of the hide; this quality can be felt along the entire bed, from head to foot. It is obivious when touching the material, that either plastics or artificial fibers are present in faux leather. The thought of different fabric sources can come into ones mind, as one runs their hands along the length of a faux leather bed.
Genuine leather also has a distinct, but rich smell. Although there are several leather tanning methods, including brain and vegetable tanning, the leather always maintains its distinctive smell. As it is composed of synthetics and plastics, faux leather does not emit a distinct smell. Anyone very familiar with leather can identify the difference between the genuine and faux variety from the scent, alone, without having to feel the fabric.
Imitation leather bed that are of low quality will likely fade or fall apart at some point. This may appear unattractive or lead to a poor night’s rest. Good quality faux leather is more comfortable and affordable than genuine leather and certainly wears better. You can pick up an imitation leather bed for a round three hundred pounds. Man made leather can never really replace the feeling a genuine leather bed. A double size, genuine leather bed, can cost as much as 800, which is about twice the cost of a faux leather bed.
You can find real leather beds that are priced affordably which aren’t crafted from special leather. Typically these are priced equivalent to faux leather beds on the market. Many people would still rather have a budget model bed made in real leather than a fancy bed in faux leather. If you do not wish to purchase leather products, because of the use of animal materials, then faux leather is a great alternative, that mimics leather, without using animal hides. Animal rights organizations such as PETA campaign heavily for plastic leather, or “Pleather”, over the genuine leather.
