Taking care of Persian Cats

August 16, 2010 | Author: John.CJames | Posted in Pets

Nowadays, Persian cats are one of the most favorite breeds of cat. Well known for their gentle and sweet personalities as well as their long hair, Persian cats have extremely appealing features. They are great companions for virtually any person, and not very demanding. Unlike other types, for example the Siamese breed, Persian breeds need very little attention.

Though white is the color normally associated with Persian cats, they actually come in a number of other colors too. During competitions, they are put into seven colour sections – solid, silver and gold, tabby, shaded and smoke, particolor, bicolor, and also Himalayan. No matter what color of Persian cat it might be, they are best noticed during competitions by their long and flowing coats.

Persian cats should always be kept inside of the house, to safeguard their coat. Should they travel outdoors, they could very easily damage their coat. They must also be brushed everyday with a metallic comb, or their coat can become tangled, which will lead to hair balls. Youll need to bathe your Persian cat frequently as well, to help protect his coat. Showering is most effective when the cat is young, since it will get him/her used to it. Bathing should not be disregarded, as it will keep your cats coat looking cleaner and healthier. Although some breeds can manage their coats by themselves, Persians cant. Their fur is long and lustrous and youll need to groom them every day to be sure their coat stays healthy.

The Persian breed is gentle and sweet, getting along great with all people – including children. They have a pleasurable tone of voice that is always good to listen to. Using their voice and their eyes, they can communicate very well with their owners. They are really very playful, yet they dont need lots of attention. They adore attention however, and love being adored. Unlike other cats, they dont climb and jump a lot whatsoever. They are not damaging either; they simply love being adored and lying around. Most of the time, Persian cats love to laze in the sunshine and show others precisely how beautiful they really are.

Even though the majority of breeds could be kept indoors outdoors, Persian cats should always be kept inside rather than permitted to go outside the home. Keeping them inside will certainly protect their coats plus keep diseases and common parasites away from them too. You will not need to panic about cars or dogs either if you keep your pet inside.

To ensure your Persian pet stays healthy, it is best to take him to the veterinary on an yearly basis. If cared for correctly, for example grooming, shots, and checkups, Persian cats can live as long as twenty years. Something youll need to understand thats common with Persians is their eyes. Their eyes are very big and can sometimes be a lot for the cat to wash. This can be a typical health problem with the breed, and really should be checked regularly to ensure that it doesnt get out of control.

When you compare Persians with other breeds, youll realize that the Persians are one of the simplest to keep. You don’t have to worry about things like leaping or climbing, as Persians dont like to do either. All you will need to do is give food to your cat and groom him or her on a daily basis. Even though grooming is usually a bit of work over time – it is definitely worth it when you have a healthy and beautiful Persian cat.
