Help! My clothes don’t fit the way they used to! Cleaning your closet and a woman’s body type at 40.
This is going to be one article of a series on updating your wardrobe and accessories.
Ok, I’m so close to 40, I’m just going to start planning for it!
However, the body I once had is not the same one I had at 20. Even if I had done everything perfect (NOT), I’d still have the gravity drops. Maybe not as severe, but whatever. All I know is all the clothes I have in my closet don’t fit the way they once did. In just a year, I developed bumps where I didn’t have them and skinnier parts that once were more supple. Not to complain, it’s just a different body style.
And I’m not alone. I heard my mother preach to me about the changes that take place, and if she didn’t tell me, I’d mention something and she would say: “yeah, I remember having the same thing happen to me when I was your age…”
Well, so what do you do when you are faced with a body that no longer looks good in the jeans you searched so hard to find to fit your unique and beautiful body? Now, Jlo doesn’t fit. Now, I need more room in the hips and less in the waist. Why? Because my fat is pooling around my buttocks. SO! Number one, it’s time to clean the closet and not keep the dying duds that once looked good on me.
Also, I found that some of the clothes I had didn’t fit my age. Not only did they not fit my body, but I can no longer (and don’t want to) wear little daisy duke shorts or mini skirts. I know this may sound cliché, but I do not want to look like a soccer mom or a couger, or Pam Anderson trying to keep what once was. I am a sexy, full bodied grown woman. I wanted to show off what I have, not what I had!
Although it was rather daunting to not have the body I once did and I’m having to learn all over what fits me, I found cleaning out my closet a very liberating thing. I felt it cleaned out the cob webs and allowed room for new and better fitting clothes!
To do this, I performed the following: (and a suggestion is to do this sweep when you are getting ready to trade out your clothes during a season change).
