Baby Boomers Or Generation Jones?

Baby Boomer Or Not?

Well I always thought I was considered part of the baby boomer generation. The baby boomers were part of the post World War II generation. However, baby boomer memories like the 60’s and Happy Days left me out because I was born very late in the 1950’s, and I enjoyed the fabulous 1960’s through the eyes of a young child. So even though I was considered a baby boomer, I was more like a baby boomer’s kid sister. That is actually true since 2 of my siblings are over half a decade older than I am.

Generation Jones

Now, I have had to live half a century to learn that I may not be a baby boomer at all, but part of something called Generation Jones. Apparently those children who were born in the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s may be excluded from the famous baby boomer club.

The term, Generation Jones, may have come from a couple of sources. The term, “keeping up with the Joneses”, may have inspired it. We were raised with high hopes and optimism, and we did come of age in the “ME DECADE” of the 1980’s.

But our generation has produced many rising stars, like our current president. So perhaps the issue here is not associating our current leadership with the baby boomer generation, who are considered so last year by many. But anyway, for ease of general use, I still consider myself a late baby boomer. Maybe age and generation is, after all, a state of mind.
