Need Sleep? Insomnia: the bane of many sleepless nights
Evil Insomnia got it’s grips on you? You are not alone. So many people suffer from sleep disorders and I kind of believe this is rampant in the American Society.
Regardless of whether it is socioeconomic reasons, personal reasons or even maybe the person next to you might snore, keeping you awake, lack of sleep leads to a lackluster life. People lose their ambition, fall to old patterns and maybe even do things that keep the pattern in place. Honestly, although people don’t, they should see a doctor if the insomnia lasts for more than a month. People say two weeks, but honestly, sometimes life may suck for 2 weeks and then be fine. It happens. Hopefully you know yourself well enough to know when it’s probably time to hit the old physician up.
You will want to keep a sleep diary when you do get a bought to see if any kind of pattern takes place: time, emotions, physical pain or something, your surroundings, and if you were dreaming. I know, you don’t want to get up and do this, but if you are a frequent insomniac, you might learn a little something about yourself that you could possibly change.
Otherwise, you probably have researched and heard the same old stuff:
Don’t drink caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine are stimulants and will keep you awake. (plus, surprise, it’s not very good for you). Try to abstain at least a few hours before bed. This does help.
Also, good to have a nice, cool, dark and quiet room with a good bed to help aid in your sleep.
There are herbs and teas that can help, too. Chamomile, Valerian, Kava Kava are good.
Read a book that isn’t too crazy and or listen to smooth jazz or some kind of non invasive music.
There are some nice stretches and yoga poses you can do for sleep, and you can easily find these online.
Try to avoid naps and get up and go to bed at the same time if you can, each day to make a pattern your body accustoms to.
Also, of course, exercise is the best thing you can do! It releases endorphins and fatigues the muscles (and helps slow the mind monkey causing worry and anxiety).
Lastly, you may want to join forums to see what other people have found works for them. Maybe they know some things you don’t!
