So How Does Sleep Make You Thinner?

No matter what diet we try, or do not try, we all link weight gain to the amount and type of food we eat. However, new research shows that many people are gaining weight because they do not get enough sleep! It is hard, at first to understand why sleep helps people stay slimmer.

Here are three reasons why you should get enough sleep in order to regulate your weight:

  • If you are staying up late, you may be doing some extra snacking. It is hard to imagine staying up late to finish some work, or even watch a movie, without stuffing extra food in my mouth.
  • The second reason is not as obvious as extra snacks. This involves what’s going on biochemically when you’re sleep deprived. Hormones that affect appetite take over, making you hungrier the next morning. These hormones also make you feel not as full after eating
  • A lack of sleep can make some people suffer more anxiety too. Anxiety can lead to eating disorders, and some scientists tell us that stress hormones tell our bodies to store more fat.

If you have been packing away some extra pounds, and you cannot explain it by a change in your diet, see if a change in your sleep pattern helps you.
