Soduim Sulfate Fee Shampoo

Sodum Sulfate, in one of its forms, is one of the most common bases for shampoos you buy. This is the shampoo you buy because it is the cheap store brand, or the professional products sold at many high end beauty salons. It has been around a long time, and it is very common because it is a detergent and foaming agent. It gives you that nice head full of suds.

But have you ever noticed that those suds sting your eyes?

Well, for many people it also causes skin irritation, and can even slow or prevent growth in hair follicles. To help bring back a healthy scalm and hair, many consumers and professionals are looking for sodium sulfate free shampoo.

A 1983 scientific report that was published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology showed that concentrations of SLS as low as 0.5% could cause irritation and concentrations of 10-30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation. Many consumer products today have 20% of Sodium Laurel Sulfate in them.

Why doesn’t everybody lose their hair or get a rash? Well, I suspect there are a couple of reasons. Some people are just more sensitive, and more likely to develop allergies. Others may use less shampoo, or have longer hair so it dilutes the effect.

However, the market for products to promote hair growth, or to give people fuller and thicker hair is booming. Many people have reported that they actually had less hair loss after they stopped using shampoos or conditioners with Sodium Sulfate. Others even stopped using hand creams with this chemical because of skin irritation. The cream that was advertised to protect their skin was actually making it worse.
