Nail Clipper Problems – How to Avoid Them
Have you ever caused a nail clipper accident? If so then you will know how damaging to your reputation it can be. If you haven’t then you need to understand exactly how to avoid them! Within this article you will learn everything you need to about nail clipper problems and how to avoid them.
Rule Number One – Never Use Blunt Nail Clippers
Blunt nail clippers are not only generally useless but they can also cause nasty damage to the nail and surrounding skin. This is because if the blades are blunt, when they close on the nail they will simply just squash it down and potentially cause it to split.
Nail clippers are designed to just close together and cut off the nail. If they are blunt then they may cut part way through the nail, but then the rest would have to be ripped off. This is what causes the damage and it will also be incredibly uncomfortable for your client. So the clippers need to constantly be sharp if they are to do their job safely and effectively.
It is possible to find a supplier who will sharpen your nail tools for you. Good sharp clippers will last you for years, but it may be more cost effective to just buy new ones.
Rule Number Two – Make More than One Cut
The second golden rule to follow when using nail clippers is to make a few cuts to the nail, not just one. You should ideally cut one side first, then the other. This will help you to keep the natural nail shape, rather than ending up with a straight horizontal cut.
The other issue with cutting just once is that it places unnecessary pressure onto the nail and that in turn can cause splintering and splitting. This is also uncomfortable for the client and it can cause even more damage than using blunt clippers could. So, cutting more than once is essential.
Rule Number Three – Filing Down the Nail
The final golden rule to follow is to file down the nail after you have clippers it. Nail clippers work really well, but they will cause the nails to have rough edges after they have been trimmed. For this reason a nail file will need to be used to smooth over the nail to keep it from peeling and catching on anything.
Overall there are many rules that you should follow when it comes to trimming the nails. The above are just three of the main ones to keep in mind.
