Would You Like to Work From Home?

Lots of people think that working from home would be ideal, even if they could just a part time business to supplement other family income. But most of those people never get started. Why? From talking to some of them, and my own experience, I think the thought is just to daunting. People believe that they need some high tech skill or expensive equipment to get started.

Being self employed myself, at this point in my life, I am always interested to see other people’s good home business ideas. This article on Simple Home Business Ideas was refreshing because it pointed out some ways to work at home that people just have not thought of. Since we self employed people tend to get our own brains sparked from other people’s ideas, I thought I would add to the list with five more ideas!

Garage Sale Arbitrage – Arbitrage is the simple act of buying low and selling high. I have known more than one person who would seek out local garage sales, estate sales, etc. for items that were underpriced and could be sold at a profit. Sometimes they would store theese goodies up in their own garage and hold their own huge and well publicized garage sale. They would take some particularly good items and market them individually on EBay, Craigslist, or in the paper. You may think it is impossible to profit like this, but I have seen many people do this for years.

Neighborhood Flyers – All you need is a pc and and a compy machine. You can find lots of local business people, like insurance agents, cleaners, and dentists, who find that simple flyers are an effective way to promote their services. Approach them with an offer to distribute a specific amount of flyers with their advertisement. They may want to add a coupon or special offer. You can even add multiple business listings to one flyer to make it more profitable for you. Does this work? You bet it does! You can distribute the flyers door to door, put them in mail boxes, or on parked car in a local shopping center.

Tutors – School seems to be getting more competitive at a younger age. Many working parents would appreciate somebody who can help kids with homework, enforce specific skills, or teach new ones. If you were good at math, know how to play an instrument, or just like kids, you can offer your services. In addition, home schooling has become more popular today. There is a demand for group excercise or music classes during the day time to meet those needs for kids who learn at home.

House Cleaning – It may not sound glamourous, but if you can charge $100 for a few hours of your time to tidy up somebody else’s home, why not do it? You can find lots of families where both parents work, and who would be happy to hire somebody they could trust to slip in and make everything nice when they get home.

Ride Service – Great grandma may need to see the doctor, or a child may need to be transported to music lessons when the family drivers are at work. You may need to make sure your personal auto isurance covers this work before you start doing it though. But otherwise it is a simple task that you can get paid for, and you will really be helping out another family by doing it.

After reading this article, and the home worker forum, you should be able to come up with even more ideas. Perhaps there is even a market for people who think of home business ideas!

Are you paying too much for homeowners insurance? Are you one of the many first time homeowenrs who needs to find coverage for the first time? Either way, it is very important to learn a few things before you buy a policy for your house. After all, for most of us, our homes are the largest asset we own.

Consider what you need to protect. Of course, you want to protect your actual house in case of damage. But you are probably also going to cover your outside structures and belongings. Some liability insurance is also included, and you may need relocation assistance in case you cannot live in your house for a while.

Do not worry. We are talking about finding good home policy deals. But first, I think, it is important to understand what is in those policies. It is not worth it to save ten bucks a month if you are not well covered.

The Actual Building You Live In – Your house must be insured, of course. Your coverage will probably be for more than you paid for the house, and more than its stated value. An older home that sold for $125,000 will probably cost more than that to rebuild if it is destroyed.

What is Outside the House? Most homes have other structures outside that can cost a lot to repair. Fences, landscaping, decks, etc. are some examples of this.

Liability – If a visitor to your home claims injury, you could be sued. Make sure your insurer will back you up!

Relocation – If you cannot stay in your home because it needs repairs, an insurer can help you out.

Home Contents – Do not forget that the personal property in your house can be worth many thousands of dollars. Be sure to find out how your belongings are covered. You probably want to value them at the replacement cost, and not the value. What is the difference? Your laptop may only be worth $100 at a second hand store, but will probably cost $1,000 to replace new at the store!

I hope you understand the basics of normal home owners insurance policies. Now it is time to look for a good rate on that policy.

You have the right to compare insurance policies and plans. You may find the best rate by taking advantage of a multiple policy discount for your house and vehicle. Smoke and anti-theft devices may also earn substantial discounts, but all of these things can vary between insurers. You need to shop around for the insurer who offers the best deal to customers like you.

Many top insurers do not offer their lowest rates to customers with poor credit, even if many other factors are in their favor. If you have had some credit challenges, you may need to shop for an insurer who does not weigh this factor.

You can use an online home insurance quote form. This allows you to key in some basic information, clilck the button, and compare homeowners insurane quotes.

We can make it easier for you to find the Good Home Insurance Rate Deals with our free online insurance quotes.

Do Women Need Life Insurance?

I have spoken to many families who shop for life insurance, but in general, they emphasize getting coverage for the husband in the family. But with so many working women and one parent families headed up by women, that seems like buying a car with only two wheels to me! In addition, I do not feel like these families have taken the time to calculate the contribution of stay at home moms, and how much money it would cost to replace her contribution.

What Do Women Contribute To Their Families?

See it isn’t all about income. And even if the wife in a family does not make as much as her husband, or even if she does not earn income at all, she still contributes. If a wife and/or mother died, who would complete all of her tasks? Child care, errands, tutoring, transportation, and overseeing kid’s medical care are just a few of the jobs that a wife and mother tends to. Even if the father, or other family members, can pick up some of the slack, they are bound to lose paid time from their jobs.

How to Buy Women’s Life Insurance?

Statistically, women live longer than men do, which means it is easier to find cheap life insurance policies for women than men. It should be very simple to compare quotes, especially with online life insurance quote forms. So you should not worry about the cost of life insurance when you are deciding if you need to cover women in the family.

In addition, many insurers allow you to compare quotes online, and even apply for no medical exam life insurance. So you also should not worry that it will be complex, invasive, or inconvenient to purchase a policy.

Baby Boomer Or Not?

Well I always thought I was considered part of the baby boomer generation. The baby boomers were part of the post World War II generation. However, baby boomer memories like the 60′s and Happy Days left me out because I was born very late in the 1950′s, and I enjoyed the fabulous 1960′s through the eyes of a young child. So even though I was considered a baby boomer, I was more like a baby boomer’s kid sister. That is actually true since 2 of my siblings are over half a decade older than I am.

Generation Jones

Now, I have had to live half a century to learn that I may not be a baby boomer at all, but part of something called Generation Jones. Apparently those children who were born in the late 1950′s to the early 1960′s may be excluded from the famous baby boomer club.

The term, Generation Jones, may have come from a couple of sources. The term, “keeping up with the Joneses”, may have inspired it. We were raised with high hopes and optimism, and we did come of age in the “ME DECADE” of the 1980′s.

But our generation has produced many rising stars, like our current president. So perhaps the issue here is not associating our current leadership with the baby boomer generation, who are considered so last year by many. But anyway, for ease of general use, I still consider myself a late baby boomer. Maybe age and generation is, after all, a state of mind.

Is Health Insurance Different For Women?

Tha Kaiser Family Foundation conducted an extensive health care study in 2005, and this led to their report that confirms health care is not gender neutral. While health care is important to both women and men, women do have more complex health care needs. Women get pregnant, and need ongoing reproductive system care. In addition, women appear to be at a much greater risk for maladies such as osteoporosis and autoimmune diseases like lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis—all of which require ongoing treatment.

But all of those health related statistics aside, also consider that women tend to make the health care decisions for their children. Women also live longer, on average, and that means they consumer more health care resources.

Are Women Insured

The latest statistics report that 17 million women do not have health insurance in the US, and 1 out of 10 working women do not get a group medical plan at work. The news has been strangely silent on this issue lately, but the current economic recess, and ongoing massive layoffs, has got to make this situation worse.

So yes, women are affected by health insurance problems, and I would also have to predict that women will be hit harder during this economic recession because of a loss of income and group health benefits.

Is Somebody Helping Women With Health Care Needs?

If you have a health care concerns, you may want to visit The Society for Women’s Health Research. They fund research on female health, and also advocate for women’s health.

If you need health care, but are not covered, visit here: No Health Insurance.

Of course, we are still waiting for the promised health care reforms to be promoted by the current administration. We know that the US has plenty of problems to deal with, but when it comes to our health, we do not forget!

I guess we really are what we eat! I guess we know that some foods tend to make us feel better. Lots of people refer to food like meatloaf and ice cream as comfort foods. But just what food can affect our mood?

Are you feeling anxious or upset because you are dehydrated? Anxiety can actually be a symptom of dehydration. Do not wait until you feel thirsty to have a drink of water.

If your head feels fuzzy, and you find it hard to concentrate, make sure you are eating enough protein. We tend to turn to starchy foods for snacks when we feel sluggish, but a hard boiled egg, slice of cheese, or bowl of tuna may serve you better.

You already knew that chocolate makes you feel better. Experts agree that chocolate can be a great mood elevator, and besides, it tastes great! If you are worried about eating too much, try buying the snack size. Here’s another guiltless chocolate idea I found at my local grocery store – Chocolate Yerba Tea! It only has 4 calories, 0 carbs, and just a surprising hint of cocoa.

Do you have any favorite mood foods?

We have more suggestions for natural remedies!

Got A Problem With An Insurance Company?

Do you think that an insurance company has let you down? If you do not believe that your insurer paid a claim the way they should have, you should not just let it go. Here are some expert steps you can take to get satisfaction.

The first thing you should do is contact your insurer, or your insurance agent, and explain why are you are not satisifed. When I worked as an insurance professional, I could get half of my client’s complaints resolved with this simple step. It is surprising, perhaps, but many issues came down to simple clerical errors. And even if the situation does not get resolved with one phone call, at least you will be sure to understand your insurer’s position better.

Your next step would be to contact your state insurance departments. Here is a list of the state insurance departments. If you contact them, they will research the problem.

Sometimes your state cannot help you, and they may even advise you to seek a lawyer. Now, lawyers can get expensive, but many will provide a free consultation. You can use this opportunity to explain your situation, and they can tell you what they think your best course of action will be. If your complaint is over a $50 doctor’s visit, you have to decide if further action is worth your time. But if your complaint is much more serious, legal representation may be your best bet!

Of course, if you are not satisfied with your insurer, this may be a great time to shop around for a new company. We suggest comparing insurance quotes online to save time and money.

Is There Still A Caste System In India?

I remember learning about the Indian caste system in middle school social studies. But I guess I assume that things had improved, much like civil rights had improved for minorities in the US. I was really surprised to read that, in some parts of India, the “Dalit” or untouchables, are still an impoverished and segregated group. They suffer from discrimination, and even violence.

In fact, India contains 160 million people of the Dalit caste. Out of these, an estimated 40 million work as bonded labor in “slave-like” conditions. In addition, it is estimated that 15 million of these bonded workers are children.Women suffer more because they do not have land rights, and have even less access to education than males do. They also suffer from sexual violence on top of poverty and discrimination.

Lead Forward Helps With Volunteers and Education

I was encouraged to read about a group called Lead Forward which operates on the “teach a man to fish” principal. They operate schools, and also help provide scholarships, in impoverished Dalit villages. To learn more about lead forward, read about one American volunteer’s adventures in India.

Lilly Ledbetter’s Fair Pay Act

As President Obama signed the first Equal Pay law, he declared that equal pay was not only a woman’s issue. He declared that is was also a family issue, and these tough economic times were not a time for having to worry about pay disparities that were based upon gender.

The new law was inspired by a woman named Lilly Ledbetter, and it is called the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Ms. Ledbetter, who is now 70, did not learn that she was paid less than her male coworkers until the end of her 19 year career at GoodYear Tires. The previous law said that a complaint had to filed within 180 days of having a company decide to pay a woman less than her male coworkers. This is obviously unfair because most of us do not know how much other people earn because of company policies!

Ms. Ledbetter will not actually benefit from the new law, but she seemed very pleased that her fight would help the next generation of American women. The bill actually amends the 1974 Civil Rights Act, and it also applied to discrimination on the basis of race, age, national origon, or disability.
